Na początku tworzymy własną postać : zmieniamy rysy twarzy, malujemy, przebieramy,wybieramy płeć oraz wiek.Gra jest pod tym względem bardzo dopracowana można zmieniać każdy możliwy szczegół! Następnie kupujemy dom na któy mamy przeznaczone 20.000 Simoleonów.Simoleony jest to waluta w simsach. Do wybrania jest wiele domów w trzech różnych miastach: Wierzbowa Zatoczka, Oaza Zdrój i Newcrest. (w podstawowej części gry)Simoleony zbieramy kopiąc skałki, malując obrazy, rozmnażając żaby i oczywiście pracując! Prac jest bardzo dużo. Od Lekarza po tajnego agenta! Nasze postacie ,aby dostać awans muszą ciężko pracować, wykonywać zadania do pracy takie jak np. przeglądanie artykułów medycznych. Simsy mogą dobierać się w pary i tworzyć rodziny! Żeby postarać się o dziecko klikamy na łóżko i wybieramy opcje ,,postaraj się o dziecko". Do simsów co jakiś czas są dodawane nowe aktualizacje, o których możemy przeczytać na stronie DOTSIM. Do gry dochodzą różne akcesorja , pakiety rozgrywki i dodatki jest ich dosyć sporo. Aktualnie gra pracuje nad nowym pakietem rozgrywki ,,Być rodzicem"! Naszą rozgrywke możemy urozmaicić modami tworzonymi przez graczy The Sims 4! Aby mody się wcztywały należy wejść w opcje gry, wybrać opcje inne i włączyć modyfikacje oraz modyfikacje ze skryptami!
