You need a Lavaproof Fishing Hook or the Hotline Fishing Rod to fish in lava.

These can be obtained from Angler quests or by defeating certain Hardmode enemies.

Equip a Lava Charm or Obsidian Skin Potion to protect yourself while fishing.
