Which crew skills are the most important to train first?

Yes, it is a great game. But, starting off might be more difficult with certain countries, so if you're having a bad time, try a different country in the game and see if it is better for your playstyle.

I'd say War Thunder is more of a vehicle combat game, while Heroes and Generals is an infrantry and vehicle combat game.

For me it takes around 15 to 20 minutes on average. Or, if the teams does well, around 10 to 15 minutes.

With only the basic game downloaded, how far can one get before needing to download the full game?

I chose Sweden, and it is my most progressed country. Some of the early tanks are very easy to be destroyerd, so that's unfortunate. I also have some major progression in Germany.

Practice helps improve performance, sometimes. Stock vehicles are mostly not as good as some of the other players' vehicles. Try to upgrade the crew of your vehicles and get better modifications.
