Music is one of the most important elements in video games. Whether you're fighting with a small group of enemies or against a giant boss, music will always be there. You can't feel the intensity without music.
With that being said, here are the top 10 action video games music tracks that I think are the best.
10. PROTOTYPE 2
PROTOTYPE 2Prototype® 2Natural SelectionScott Morgan Your browser does not support the audio element.
PROTOTYPE is one of the most underrated video game series of the past generation. Till this day, not many people know about this franchise. It was developed by Radical Entertainment and published by Activision. PROTOTYPE 2 is the final game of the series. It has quite a lot of good OSTs. Natural Selection is one of the best. It was composed by Scott Morgan.
The series had a lot of potentials. It's a shame that Activision let it die after officially shutting down Radical Entertainment.
9. CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS II
BLACK OPS IICall of Duty®: Black Ops IIAdrenalineJack Wall and Trent Razor Your browser does not support the audio element.
Remember those good old days when Call Of Duty used to be a good franchise? Black Ops II is the last good game in the Black Ops series. Even after all these years, the game is still holding up pretty decent.
Adrenaline was composed by Jack Wall and Trent Razor. It was also used as the main theme for the multiplayer mode.
8. DEATH STRANDING
DEATH STRANDINGDeath Stranding™PathApocalyptica Your browser does not support the audio element.
Death Stranding is Hideo Kojima's upcoming new game. After leaving the Metal Gear franchise to Konami's hand, his team KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS started working on this project. Currently, I don't know much about this game. Even though I've seen all the official trailers and gameplay footages, it still confuses me what type of game it is and what it will end up being after its release.
Path is the official theme song of Death Stranding. It was composed by Apocalyptica, a symphonic metal band from Finland. The song was taken from their album Cult which was released September 28, 2000. Well, it seems like Kojima does have a good taste in old music.
7. HITMAN 2016
HITMAN 2016HITMAN™A World Of AssassinationNiels Bye Nielson Your browser does not support the audio element.
HITMAN 2016 is the true spiritual successor of HITMAN Blood Money. It has the smooth gameplay mechanism from Absolution and the freedom of eliminating targets from Blood Money. It has the most awesome music tracks that I've ever heard in a Hitman game.
A World Of Assassination is mixed with atmospheric, horror and sad tunes. It was composed by Niels Bye Nielson.
6. DEUS EX: MANKIND DIVIDED
MANKIND DIVIDEDDeus Ex: Mankind Divided™Adam JensenMichael McCann Your browser does not support the audio element.
Deus Ex Mankind Divided was developed by Eidos Montreal and published by Square Enix. The OST Adam Jensen is a synthwave music track, which was named after the series protagonist Adam Jensen. Most of the music tracks were composed by Michael McCann. Sascha Dikiciyan, who was also involved composing music tracks for Mankind Divided, but this specific OST was composed entirely by Michael McCann.
Deus Ex Mankind Divided is the greatest cyberpunk game that you can play right now, before the release of CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077. Give it a shot, you won't regret playing it.
5. CRYSIS 3

In my honest opinion, Crysis 3 has the best music tracks that I've ever heard in a Crysis game, even though the game itself is not the best in the series. It was developed by Crytek and published by Electronic Arts. New York Memories is the main theme of Crysis 3. It was composed by Borislav Slavov. He also composed the music tracks for Crysis 2 as well.
This music gives me chills, every time I listen to it.
4. ASSASSIN'S CREED BROTHERHOOD
BROTHERHOODAssassin's Creed® BrotherhoodVenice Rooftops VariationJesper Kyd Your browser does not support the audio element.
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood was developed and published by Ubisoft. Like Assassin's Creed II, Brotherhood's music tracks were also composed by Jesper Kyd.
Venice Rooftops Variation is probably one of the best OST of all time in the entire Assassin's Creed series. Whether you're a fan of Assassin's Creed or not, you're going to love this music.
3. STREET FIGHTER V
STREET FIGHTER VStreet Fighter® VStreet Fighter VKatsuyuki Nagano Your browser does not support the audio element.
This has to be one of the best Street Fighter OSTs of all time, at least this is what I believe. The original classic OST World Warrior from Street Fighter II is great, nothing can be compared to it. But this music track is completely different and one of a kind, just like the classic OST.
Whenever I play older Street Fighter games such as the 3rd Strike or Alpha 3 (Funny but it's true, I still play and enjoy those classics), this music plays in my head all the time.
2. DEVIL MAY CRY
DEVIL MAY CRYDevil May Cry™Public EnemyMasato Koda Your browser does not support the audio element.
Devil May Cry franchise is well known for its Gothic Rock/Metal music tracks. Every single Devil May Cry titles have top-notch music tracks. Public Enemy was the very first battle theme for the main protagonist of the series, Dante. It was composed by Masato Koda.
This music track will forever remain as a classic battle theme for Dante.
1. METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGEANCE
Metal Gear Rising RevengeanceMetal Gear Rising : Revengeance™Rules of NatureJamie Christopherson Your browser does not support the audio element. If you're a metal music fan, then Metal Gear Rising certainly won't disappoint you. It's a hack-n-slash game developed by PlatinumGames and published by Konami.
Rules of Nature was composed by Jamie Christopherson. It was used as one of the main theme songs for the game. Almost every single music tracks in this game are superb and groundbreaking. A video game without music is unimaginable. Music controls our emotion and establishes the tone of an unfolding narrative without a doubt. Video games and music are connected.
