This is an article about all the games we (veterans) played at the start of our Gaming career.
The first hits,
We all had to start our hobbies somewhere. Back in those times, gaming was not a big deal. Most of us were more into sports as hobbies than gaming. Gaming started to become much more popular around the 2000s, thanks to that. I managed to see the day when the first big hits were announced.
At first, games were not that attractive, neither for me. The first actual game that I could somewhat enjoy was the first Half-Life, a game that later started my gaming career.
As you might know, games were unlike anything today: Companies seemed to care alot more about the customers than now.
This article will be mostly about those specific games most of us, veteran gamers recognize. So let's get started!
Half-Life:
My whole gaming "career" started with the first game I played in 2005 which was the Half Life. I looked at this game as my favourite game for years. This was also game I've ever played. I can still recommend this game or any other from the Half-Life series for low, old and weaker PCs. That's why I played it for so long. I had only an old PC, that couldn't handle some other games. Oh man, I was playing this game over and over again. The game had a really good story, really good AI(Back then, it was excellent), and the sounds were amazing, even on my bad headphones. If I had to rate this game, it's 10/10. Soon as Half-Life 2, up to the Episode 2 were released it was still a huge hit as it was still playable on the lowest specs of computers. Still, we gamers can't really play only one series for years, right? It is! That's why we're moving on to the next amazing game:
Need for Speed:
It was the best Racing game I played at that time and I am sure that there are no better games than the old Carbon and Most Wanted even nowadays. I still have this game as a CD (Don't you guys miss the old retail videogames?). This was the game, that could beat every other racing game. In this game you could fully customize your car and beat yourself up the street's ranking ladder. A'ight. This is a solid 10/10 Racing gameg, everyone should try.
Far-Cry:
I didn't like that game much. The first half of the story was bearable, but near the end there were mutants and things I couldn't imagine in a game like that. I still can't tell much about this game. The sequel of the Far-Cry (aka Far-Cry 2) was a sweetpoint for me though. Out of all the Far-Cry games made nowadays, I would still choose Far-Cry 2 as the best out of all; Only if I did not have to constantly take those pills against malaria. Overally, solid 7/10 retro game. As I mentioned, I did not like this game much, but the next game I'll show ya will be my top game.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
The cherry on the top of the cake!
This game is still my favourite as you can see. It is a russian apocalyptic game set in Chernobyl, Pripyat but most importantly; The Zone. The story is about a noosphere experiement that went wrong and changed the biosphere. You have to hunt mutants, you have to loot, and do interesting stuff. The gameplay is a really good one. Still after years, modders/fans managed to keep this game alive. So if you want to try this game I would suggest you to try a fanmade modpack called "S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Anomaly". It has everything you need in it and is not connected to a protagonist's story; In this game you are a nobody, a casual scavenger who's trying to survive and earn a few bucks to upgrade your gear. Overall score: 11/10.
So people, what's your favourite retro game?
Are you still playing it?
What other good nostalgic games have you played?
