Doki Doki Literature Club - My Experience and Review

This is my game review for one of my top 10 favorite games of 2017! This game has actually surprised me to be honest.

Doki Doki Literature Club is a visual novel and psychological horror made by Team Salvato and by the author and creator, Dan Salvato. When I first played this, I thought it was a normal dating simulator like all the other games that has characters like them but then I was wrong and the worst part is that I ignored the warning at the beginning of the game, "This game is not suitable for children or those who are easily disturbed.". Seriously though, you need to take the warning seriously or you will regret it as you go on further into the game. But of course, I would not like to spoil you so that you can experience the game by yourself.

Doki Doki Literature Club is a cutesy slice of life visual novel about 4 girls: Sayori, Natsuki, Yuri, and then of course, Monika! Throughout the story, you get to spend time with each of the girls, learning all about them, and you even get opportunities to date them and at the end of each day, you get to write a poem that you will show to the rest of the club, and you can tailor it to a specific girl by just selecting words that the girl you wish to spend time with might like. Even though you don't like visual novels or reading too much dialogue, I think you might like this game because I myself is not very fond at reading such long lines but I got hooked and finished the whole game with an estimated playtime of 4 hours. Another additional information is that the game has at least three to four endings.

As for the gameplay, it starts off a bit slow and you might get bored on reading the texts (Personally, I enjoyed the reading parts) but I assure you, just play along and it would be very worth your time. Based on my gameplay experience, you might start getting the action firing up after making three to four poems for them and you will know why it has "Overwhelmingly Positive" reviews on Steam. I like some certain mechanics of this game such as the option to manipulate the game directory files in order to progress into the game and what I liked the most is a specific character/s that will break a fourth wall toward the conclusion of the game. To be honest, I'm surprised that this game is free to play because I'm expecting this to have a retail price but if you want to support the developers of the game, you can buy the Doki Doki Literature Club Fan Pack! (Which I highly recommend by the way because they deserve it). This is one of the best game I played throughout the years and I must say this is a masterpiece having great plot twists and such.

I recommend playing this game before 2017 ends so that it can have a chance to have a spot at your top 10 games of 2017. Some say this game is only for people who likes anime just because if its art style but it's not completely true. This game may mess you up because of the emotional turn of events but here I am saying, "Just go and play it right now because it's free on Steam!"

    TL;DR 10/10 A masterpiece, recommended.
