Open qualifiers for the Leipzig Major kicked off today and for the Chinese region it was PSG.LGD who would be looking to fine their way into the closed qualifier and maybe the Major – but it wasn’t to be.
With Outlanders only a few days old, teams would have to show exactly what they’d learned in this brand-new update to Dota 2 as they battled through the open qualifiers in hopes of reaching the closed qualifier. For PSG.LGD, after finishing in 3rd place at The International 2019, this would be their first attempt at reaching a Major in the 2019/2020 Dota 2 Pro Circuit season, after taking a break through the first. However, this wasn’t to be as the team have now been eliminated in the round of 16 at the open qualifier.
There will be no second chances in a second qualifier bracket, nor will there be any LGD at the upcoming Leipzig Major, meaning that they will possibly only be present at the third Major – much like OG. The best-of-one initial rounds of qualifiers are always a tough place for even the best of teams and with the new update being such a massive change, this could be the reason behind LGD’s loss to For The Dream Apollo, a team which we know little about.
As qualifiers continue, we’re expecting to see the likes of Team Secret and Nigma battling through the open divisions of their region too, but that will be tomorrow. For now, it seems as though PSG.LGD will need to go back to the drawing board until we see them in December for the ONE Esports Dota 2 World Pro Invitational in Singapore.
