I could see the haters from a mile away!
Okay, so this debate has been around since LoL came out, and I'm pretty sure its still alive.
So I'm here to talk about it!
Here goes nothing...
So, Dota 2 and LoL are both MOBA's (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) and have come a long way since their release.
I think some of you may know that Dota 2 came from a game called World of Warcraft or WoW, it was a mod and gained popularity across the globe.
It has been handed down from Dev to Dev until players decided that DotA Allstars was the best DotA.
And since World of Warcraft was owned by Blizzard, they technically had possession of it.
But in 2013 Valve released Dota 2, winning the title of "Dota" from Blizzard, being designed by the famous Icefrog, was a big hit when the time of Dendi came around.
League of Legends
Developed and published by Riot Games, is an inspiration from DotA, having a ton of "Champions" to buy from,
different maps, and well overall, a great game.
Now in comparisons
1. Genre - They are both MOBA (duh)
Now both games are pretty much the same in difficulty, it just depends on who are you playing against
But Dota 2 seems harder because of some well thought out item and skill mechanics.
Now in terms of design, I'd say they are both equal in their own ranks, Dota 2 has those magnificent real-life looking designs,
while LoL has cartoonish designs.
In lore, Dota 2 takes the cake by a long shot, Dota 2 heroes have lore that even connect to each other, even their in-game dialogues correspond to
the hero (ally/enemy) they are with.
Now in terms of diversity, Dota 2 also takes this, each hero in Dota 2 has a unique skill set, having different properties, pros, and cons.
In LoL, some champions may have unique skill sets, but the rest seem to be generic and all around boring to play.
Dota 2 may have fewer characters to play with, but it compensates by having heroes who specialize in one thing only. Rather than being good at everything. (Tank Teemo)
Levels, now in LoL, it's very easy to catch up in terms of levels, it doesn't really affect the game that much if you die, you don't lose much gold.
Now in Dota 2, levels and gold are everything, die once, you lose a level, and because max level cap in Dota is 25, its longer to reach, if you're level 13 and the
enemy is 17, you would get rekt pretty bad, and have a rough time in the game, same with gold. It got harder when they introduced Talent Trees.
But this system is high-risk high-reward if you kill like 5 people in Dota 2, that would make for about 4 level gaps, and you would feel like a boss.
Now both LoL and Dota 2 have item builds, in which you can buy an item and upgrade it further, LoL has pretty straightforward items, easy to understand,
meanwhile, Dota 2 items are much harder to grasp, having lore themselves, Active abilities, Passive Abilities, toggles, it really gives you a hard time on what to get when you're a beginner.
Now, of course, LoL and Dota 2 heroes/champions have their own set of skills, some being copied off one another (ahem), and some vastly different and unique, just like what I've said earlier.
Now some Dota 2 heroes rely heavily on their skills, and some don't (right-click heroes), and some need items to further enhance it, in Dota 2, mana cost, cooldown, damage, are a lot more than
LoL, in LoL you can spam all you want (some exceptions), but in Dota 2, you have to buy items to increase your mana or go back to base just to refill it, some skills can only be cast 2 times and your mana pool
is empty, in LoL, that ain't a problem (Why Teemo). Some skills require 2 min cooldowns.
Now LoL has different maps, while Dota 2 only has 1 (2 if you count the Demo). The normal maps are pretty much the same, having a top, middle, and bottom lane, with their respective jungles.
Only Difference is, is that Dota 2 have different lengths for their safelane and offlane, and LoL has tall grass to hide from, while Dota 2 has Stairs and cliffs.
Well that's it for my Comparison, (I'm a Dota 2 player so yeah)
So Dota 2 or LoL?
Well, I haven't stated what was the competition, but you came here for the question - which is better?- Well, both games are good, you can't really compare them to one another.
LoL has a huge pool of champions to choose from, adapting to your playstyle, and can do other roles, while Dota 2 heroes can stick to 1 role, some 2.
Dota 2 has some nice mechanics, pretty hard and cruel if you're starting to play. LoL has this easy-going playstyle for fun and relaxation (nope LoL toxicity)
Dota 2 has good players (cancer...just pure cancer) and LoL has good players too, wouldn't really know which one would win.
The two excel at what they do.
But the real question is, which game is more toxic?
Well, I would say LoL, not from any hate, I don't have any hate towards LoL, but from my experience, 4/5 games in LoL, I get toxic players, while in Dota 2, 3/5 games have toxic players :D
WELL, THATS ALL FOLKS THANKS FOR READING, HOPE YOU ENJOYED AND SEE YA ON THE NEXT, ARRRTICLE!!
(Sorry if I offended any Dota 2 or LoL fans out there, this was purely my opinion and I don't feel any hate towards the two games)
