    The origins of CS:GO

Ever wondered about Counter-Strike Global Offensive origins? Well you've come to the right place. Here we will discuss it's ancestry from the Half-Life mod to the game we love and play today

The series began it's life in 1999 as a modification for the beloved game, Half-Life. The game grew in popularity and got the attention of Valve (Half-Life's developers at the time) and was released as a full fleged game in 2000 and it was an immediate succes the game being active even today. The series continued it's rise in 2004 with the release of Counter-Strike: Condition Zero (this game also had a singleplayer campaign) and later in the year Counter-Strike: Source. Source surpassed Condition Zero in popularity mainly because of the new engine developed by Valve it employed, Source. After a pause of 8 years CS:GO was released and it was an almost an instant hit. A month later the skills groups were introduced through an update an in 2013 the skins were introduced. Throughout it existence CS span multipple Proffesional Competions with prize pools of around $37,164,359.32 (Money Awarded in CS:GO competitions). Today CS:GO enjoys a large ammount of succes with around a quarter a million players online each day. And with a future engine speculated to come in the next year we cand say CS:GO is going stronger than ever. The succes of this series also spawned a lot of spin-offs like Counter-Strike Neo in Japan running on a Linux system (adaptation of the original CS modification for Half-Life), Counter Strike Online in Asia (now discontinued) and Counter Strike Nexon Zombies which is available to this day on Steam even though it has Mixed reviews it manages to rack almost 3 000 players daily
