You can try writing them, but don't expect 1000 for them. I've read that people usually get around 300 if they're acceppted, but if they're really good, it could be more. Also, you have to wait for them to get accepted. I wrote one yesterday, but nothing so far. As for other ways, you could try inviting your friends and working together to get a lot of gems. I don't recommend trying the android apps because they're a bit broken. I've heard World of Tanks gives you a lot of gems if you play it enough. Also, there are some active codes that give you some rewards. You can choose to keep it or sell it for gems.
