War Thunder can be really really frustrating, but if you love planes and tanks you will just love it! It is also not so hard to play without doing much purchase. Definitely recommended, go and try it!

If you want to play purchade free, it is going to take some time for you. Just don't rush to it, you'll often receive chances to get speed up items anyway. If you are concerned about the quests, i believe you should be able to finish them in time even without any purchase.
For Air Realistic Battles, that has to be Bf-109 G6. It fits the Air RB meta well, it can take damage and it is very tanky!
If you enjoy tanks and aircraft (naval is kinda dead) it is good. Especially the Realistic battles is a fun balace between arcade and complete simulator experience, it has many vehicles from WW2 up to Vietnam Era, so you should absolutely give it a shot!
