Strategies or tips for completing this challenge?

Like the title states, does anyone have any tips or advice for completing this? Was it very difficult, or were there anything you wish you would have done from the start?

Thanks! I wasn't sure if any ships were best to work towards. It looks like its pretty similar to World of Warships so its more of a matter of finding which works best for your play style. Its really fun.
