why not? 1 card - 50-20 gems. would you pay this amount for $0.08 card? bear in mind that sack of 1000 gems is worth only $ .70-.80 and when cand is worth 2 gems and can be sold for $0.08 on market doesn't mean you will sell it for 2 gems, no?
Turning cards into gems are NOT worth it. You lose way too much during the conversion. Only good for the bandge you get of doing a few, but pretty useless after that in my opinion.
most important reason why people want to sell cards for money is because this way they can get back some cash for next games purchase. you can't do it with gems so it's useless. selling cards to get what? gems are useless as it is

This really grinds my gears. Seriously every game has at least 2 different virtual currencies now, so people should be somewhat competent with conversions and stuff. And yet I rarely see a trading topic that even mentions gems as an option. It would be very much easier to buy trading cards with gems, and perhaps don't pay Valve's outrageous 10+% trading fee.
