Devil May Cry HD Collection is a remastered, renewed and improved re-edition of the first three parts of the cult game Devil May Cry, released in 2001-2005. These titles, created and refreshed by Capcom, were initially available only on the PlayStation 2. HD Collection, however, made the games available not only on new-generation PlayStation, but also on Microsoft and PC consoles. In this way, from April 3, 2012, the game is available on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and from March 13, 2018, the DMC re-edition can also be played on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PCs with Windows. The Devil May Cry HD Collection includes three titles: Devil May Cry from 2001, a sequel called Devil May Cry 2 released in 2003 and a prequel to the first part released in 2005, i.e. Devil May Cry 3. All these titles tell the story of Dante, who fearlessly fights demons, defending mankind.
Devil May Cry combines the features of hack'n'slash, platformer and role-playing from the very beginning. The main task of the player is, of course, to defeat hordes of demons and hellish creatures to whom he has to deal series of beautifully aimed blows. However, Dante also has to overcome various obstacles and "platforms" during missions, which sometimes requires the player's mental strain. Devil May Cry has become such a cult series that it contributed to the creation of anime series, comics and novels. In each of these works, the main violin was obviously played by Dante - a white-haired half-human half-demon with supernatural abilities, who was one of the few who was able to overcome the forces of hell.
The Devil May Cry series was launched in 2001, when the already popular Capcom studio created the first part of the series for the PlayStation 2 console.
Devil May Cry almost immediately gained immense popularity thanks to its remarkable mechanics, engaging story, interesting characters and graphics. The unique fighting style was appreciated by the players. Each of the fights in DMC is rated on a scale, ranging from "Dull", through "Cool", "Bravo", "Absolute", to the perfect punching called "Stylish".
The first DMC was a game combining elements of hack'n'slash and platformers. The game was divided into stages, called missions, during which Dante - the main character of the series had to fight enemies straight from hell, move on platforms and solve puzzles. The plot of the first part focuses on the fate of Dante and Trish, who must defeat the Lord of Hell - Mundus.
Devil May Cry soon after its premiere received very high ratings among players, critics and gaming magazines. The game has sold over four million copies. It is fair to say that it was the success of the first part of the series that pushed the creators to create the sequel - Devil May Cry 2 - in 2003 and the prequel Devil May Cry 3, which was released in 2005.
The game also has a few more parts, but the first three have become iconic. It was them who got a renewed, remastered re-edition, which was released for PlayStation3 and Xbox 360 in 2012 and for PS4, XONE and PC in 2018.
